Orders and deliveries:

How do I order Bismark’s Bistro?

You can use our website to order.

Bismark’s Bistro Boxes for Dogs and Cats can be ordered on a subscription basis if you so wish or you can do a manual EFT payment. Select your pet’s meals by clicking the ‘add to cart’ button, proceed to checkout, and complete your order by making payment.

If you prefer not to order using our website, please email bismarksbistro@gmail.com for assistance.

Custom Dog Meal Boxes, Standard Dog Meal Boxes and Standard Cat Boxes on subscription will automatically renew for your convenience and will be delivered every two weeks (14 days). This means that your dog or cat is probably enjoying one packet per day as an add on to their existing diet. The additional items such as Biscuits, Bites or Trial packs can be ordered as single products on a manual basis via EFT.

You do not need to have a Payfast subscription account to order. You may also do direct EFT.

 How does Payfast work?

To set up a profile in Payfast you will need to go to https://www.payfast.co.za/user/register which will allow you to register a free account to buy from Bismark’s Bistro.

For every order placed you will receive an order confirmation, by email, within 24 hours of placing that order with full details of products, prices and delivery details requested on that order.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if confirmation is not received within that time frame. Payments are done via Payfast and you will be redirected to the portal.

Do I have to create a profile and order via a subscription plan?

No, you are welcome to email or WhatsApp us directly with your order. Email us at bismarksbistro@gmail.com or Whatsapp at 0843003254.

We will invoice you and supply you with EFT payment details. Delivery will be scheduled accordingly. This is ideal for first time clients who would like to try the products, or for once off deliveries if you are visiting Cape Town for a short period.

I would like to order continuously on a monthly basis. Do I still need to place my orders online?

If you would like to order meals on a monthly basis simply email bismarksbistro@gmail.com with your request.

My subscription:

Do I need to place an order every two weeks or will my subscription automatically run?

If you do not want to change your order, the system will automatically charge you and resend another order for your dog or cat in 2 weeks’ time. If your dog or cat eats 2 packets per day and finishes a box per week, you can do an additional subscription a week later to ensure delivery every week.

How do I pause my subscription?

It is very easy. You simply click the pause button on the Order page. Once you want to resume deliveries, you can click again to re-activate your account.

What if I need to cancel my order?

All orders can be cancelled at any time up until 48 hours prior to the day of dispatch. To do this you can email or phone, quoting your order reference number and we’ll refund any monies paid in advance as soon as possible. Our food is prepared fresh and made per order, so please give us fair warning to stop producing your order so that we do not waste fresh ingredients. Failure to cancel an order 48 hours before scheduled delivery time will result in full charges and no refunds will be made to you.

Gift Vouchers:

 Do you offer gift vouchers?

Yes, we can create personalised electronic vouchers, which can be used by the recipient to order our meals online. Email us at bismarksbistro@gmail.com with the amount you would like to gift.

How do I switch my pet over to Bismark’s Bistro?

Your first box will include a couple of bags or tubs marked clearly as “Transition pack”. Slowly introduce the contents of the transition packs to their existing diet over a couple of days until they are used to the new diet.

How much should I feed my dog?

It is healthier for animals of all ages to be lean rather than plump. Keep a close eye on your pet’s weight whenever you switch diets and adjust the amounts you feed up or down as needed. Do not increase or decrease the amounts you feed by more than 10 percent at a time. The data we provide here is from a general perspective and the exact measurements of food and calories they will eat per day will depend on the health and weight of your pet.

These measurements are indicated for pets with moderate physical activity and without any health problem or allergy. If you have a pregnant pet, for example, they need a greater quantity of proteins, fats, and calcium for the correct development of the pregnancy. Pregnant pets need more food and may need to be fed five times a day. If you have any questions, consult your trusted veterinarian.

As a general rule, normal adult dogs (dogs over a year in age) will eat around 2 to 3 percent of their body weight in cooked food per day (20-30 grams of food per kilogram of body weight). Large dogs will tend to eat a lower percentage, and small dogs a higher percentage of their body weights. Toy breeds may need as much as 4 to 5 percent of their body weight daily, while giant breeds might eat as little as 1½ percent. We recommend feeding your adult dog two meals a day. Divide the total amount in half for each meal. If you know your dog is very active, is looking a bit skinny, or eats more now than would he should for his age and size, then start with higher amounts. If you have a couch potato, or a dog who is overweight, then start with less. Again, watch your dog’s weight closely, using a scale, and adjust as needed.

Puppies should be fed four times a day.

1/4 grown: 4.5 to 6.5 percent of current body weight daily
1/2 grown: 3.5 to 5.25 percent of current body weight daily
3/4 grown: 2.75 to 4 percent of current body weight daily
Fully grown: 2 to 3 percent of their body weight daily

Most dogs have little problem switching to a home-cooked diet. If your dog is prone to digestive problems, then you may want to make the change gradually. Add just a small amount of Bismark’s Bowl at a time and wait a few days to see how your dog does before adding more, gradually increasing the amount of new food and decreasing the amount of the old. If your dog vomits or has diarrhoea, return to his prior diet and make the change more carefully once his digestive system is back to normal. Only add boiled pumpkin to his regular food during the transition phase and add the new food slowly again.

  • Extra Small or toy dog breeds – 5-8 kg
  • Small  –9-16 kg
  • Medium dog breeds – 17-24 kg
  • Large dog breeds – 25-32 kg
  • Extra Large dog breeds – 33 kg+

Bones: Bismark’s Bistro does not supply bones. Ground eggshell can be used as a calcium supplement. One large eggshell provides one teaspoon of ground eggshell, which contains 2,000 mg of calcium, so add ½ teaspoon ground eggshell for every 450 grams of food fed.

Can I change any ingredients in the meal if my dog has allergies?

Yes, you can let us know what allergies your dog has, and we can exchange the ingredient for something else.

How many portions are in one box for dogs and cats?

14 Packets of food. Food is packed according to your dog’s weight or breed in Standard or Custom boxes.  The Standard Cat box also contains 14 tubs. Your pet should eat two full packets of food per day if he only eats from our Bistro. Bismark’s Bistro can be served on its own (14 bags will be 7 days’ worth of food if your dog eats twice daily), or as a topping over dry food to give them some variety and real nutrition.  Some clients prefer to serve the existing diet (even raw) with a Bistro bag every other day for added nutrition.

Can I freeze the bags and serve them later?

Bags can be frozen and defrosted naturally to use later on. Do not reheat the bags and do not defrost them in a microwave oven.

Should I return the cooler box and ice pack?

Please return the box and ice pack to our driver on your next delivery to help keep our packaging costs low.

Should I give my dog any bones?

Bismark’s Bistro does not supply bones as we have witnessed that the cons outweigh the pros on this point. An emergency trip to the vet has confirmed our beliefs. Ground eggshell can be used as a calcium supplement. One large eggshell provides one teaspoon of ground eggshell, which contains 2,000 mg of calcium, so add ½ teaspoon ground eggshell for every 450 grams of food fed.
